Fort Fremont Historical Park 9.0.295

The tour offers an insightful exploration of Fort Fremont, a Spanish American War-era Endicott fortification situated on Saint Helena Island, near Beaufort, South Carolina. Nestled along the shores of Port Royal Sound, a historically significant waterway on the Southeast Atlantic coast, Fort Fremont was operational from 1888 to 1917. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the fort's role in local military history and learn about its namesake, John C. Fremont. The tour also features a diorama and other models that portray the fort's appearance at the turn of the twentieth century. Additionally, visitors will discover the efforts of the volunteer Friends group dedicated to preserving this historic site, raising public awareness, and promoting the construction of an Interpretive Center at the park.
